The NPD Group has released the US software and hardware sales figures for the month of April and guess what, Nintendo wiped the floor with everyone again. The DS had a particularly disgusting month. Check it out:

Well, that DSi launch really worked out for Nintendo, didn’t it? I suspect there will be a lot of creampies thrown Sony’s way today over the PS3 sales, specifically the fact that they’re now below PS2 sales. Still, Xbox 360 didn’t exactly have a stellar month either.

CONCORD, N.H. – The legalization of gay marriage in New Hampshire hinges on the next move of Gov. John Lynch, who remains uncommitted but has said he believes the word “marriage” should be reserved for the union of a man and a woman.New Hampshire Rep. David Pierce, who has two daughters with his partner, described telling his 5-year-old that “some people don’t believe we should be a family.”
“When my kids grow up and are old enough to understand what we’re doing here today, I want them to know I did everything I could to fight for our family,” said Pierce, D-Hanover.

Dual-Boot Smartphone, iPhone with Windows Mobile

There’s good news for those who want to double the usefulness of their iPhone: a developer will soon release an application that will allow Apple’s smartphone to run Windows Mobile.

Norwegian Erik Kristiansen has created a dual-boot application for the iPhone, similar to Apple’s Boot Camp for its PCs. It allows users to run either Windows Mobile or the standard iPhone operating system. This isn’t an emulator, and the two OSs can’t run simultaneously.

Kristiansen gave a brief demonstration and interview at the myPhone2008 event:

The beta being demonstrated certainly appears to have the basic functionality of Windows Mobile, but details are scant. For example, it’s not clear if Windows Mobile applications will be able to access the iPhone’s entire internal storage, or only a partition.

This iPhone application is scheduled to be released in January of next year. Pricing is not yet known.

Naturally, it will not be available through the official App Store, as Apple has forbidden emulators and similar software to be sold through its store.

I had a Lite-Brite growing up. The idea of sticking colored plastic nibs into a backlit board was so simple yet I remember sitting on the floor for hours on end, hypnotized by my juvenile creativity. Fast forward 20 years later and I’m getting that feeling again. Bandai has a Lite-Brite like product called the Luminodot. Same concept but for the 21st century.

The design is sleek like an HDTV which in my opinion a good idea. Those of us with nostalgia wouldn’t want a toy in our grown up living rooms now would we? The backlit system is brighter and there’s accompanying software to help your creativity and to share templates. If you’re real creative, you can even program backlit animations.

As usual Japan gets all the fun stuff. $100 is a little steep but I don’t think Bandai is targeting kids. In the meantime, we can play with their Luminodot simulator.

eBay Alternative: Finding Auction Sites like eBay

Looking for an eBay alternative. Well, there are a lot of Auction sites like eBay, and since the recent shake up in the eBay selling community more and more people are looking for alternatives to eBay. Now that eBay is implementing changes, unhappy sellers are trying to find a auction sites like eBay, that are not actually run by eBay or any eBay affiliates..

Unfortunately for its competitors, eBay has a very large stake in the online marketplace. However, there are some auction sites like eBay where you can sell your goods.

The two main eBay alternatives to eBay I use are Amazon.com, and Craigslist.

Amazon.com is a great place if you are selling books, music, DVDs, video games, or other electronics. It is very easy to use compared to eBay. All you have to do is find the item you want to sell, write a couple sentence description about its condition, and set your price. One of the best things about Amazon is that it is very straight forward, and you have to spend almost no time answering emails from buyers. This is my number 1 alternative to ebay!
If you want to sell a small number of items on a personal level without having to deal with eBay fees, or PayPal holding your money, then I recommend Craigslist. It is very easy to use, you get paid in cash, and you don’t have to ship anything. I like to use craigslist for all of my larger items.

There are several auction sites like eBay that are increasing in popularity as eBay sellers flee:

Bidville is an auction site like eBay. It the second largest online auction site after eBay, and is a true eBay alternative. They do not charge you a listing fee, so you can list as many items as you like. They do charge a Final Value Fee, but it is low at 5% for items that sell for less than $25. If you love the auction format, but hate eBay, Bidville may be right for you.
eCrater is the third largest online store front. They are very easy to deal with, everything is completely free, and they help you set up an online storefront in minutes that will connect to froogle.com
Blujay is the fourth largest, but fastest growing online marketplace. The items posted there also show up on froogle, and it is free. This is a great eBay alternative because Sellers on Blujay can post unlimited ads, 4 photos per ad, with up to 180 day listing periods all for free. And like eCrater, every blujay member gets an online webstore to showcase their items.

Just remember, when looking for an eBay alternative, make sure to do your research and find somewhere you can really be happy with. The best thing about eBay is the free traffic. With most of the other auction sites like eBay you are going to have to work harder to get eyeballs on your listings.

Pentax K20D review

Pentax K20D digital SLR review : In many aspects the Pentax K20D is similar to its predecessor, yet offers considerably more. In the first place, there are more pixels, of course; the trend continues. With a resolution of 14 million pixels the K20D is ahead of its close competitors, the Canon EOS 40D and its allies. The image sensor is now a CMOS and has been developed in close cooperation with Samsung. The latter also manufactures the CMOS sensor and integrates it into the GX20, which is the twin brother of the Pentax K20D. The quality should remain the same thanks to minimizing the circuitry around each photo site, thus keeping the light-sensitive area of each pixel to the same size as other companies manage on 12 MP sensors.

Pentax bayonet supports all K-mount lenses

The Pentax K20D looks a bit stubby, although it still has a compact size. If you place a pancake lens on the camera, it still fits easily into your coat pocket which makes it an ideal combination for a journalist to take pictures in the streets. All lenses with K-mount fit to the bayonet mount of the K20D. And there are heaps of these lenses; you can even use your lenses from many years ago. If you do, however, you wouldn’t be able to use certain functionalities. Pentax and Nikon are the only two brands that didn’t change the bayonet mount when AF entered the field.

As always, Pentax allows you to keep using your old lenses. Although you might not be able to use the 11-point SAFOX VIII auto focus motor. To correct any flaws that may occur in the lens, Pentax integrated a calibration function. This function looks like the setting possibilities on the Canon and Nikon, yet takes things further. You can actually calibrate the lens, and this is something for which you would have to go to the importer when it comes to other brands. A unique possibility proving that Pentax takes things a step further. Studio photographers will be pleased to bits to find the flash unit connection on the K20D; something on which K10D users, unfortunately, miss out.
